Capt. Henderson of St. Catherines Ontario was personally selected by Billy Bishop to fly in his squadron after seeing his flying / stunt skills displayed for members of the Royal family during WWI. This collection is a national treasure of over 1400 photos plus newspaper clippings depicting Henderson's life before the war, and his cutting edge business ventures after the war. Henderson is documented as having 11 enemy plane shot down before a superior German pilot removed him from the sky ... the clipping say he fell 17,000 feet in flames, only to have the fall impact lessened by crashinging into a large tree ... plane in ruins, but Henderson a survivor ... the 1st photo shows him as a POW with his musical band. Henderson came from a family of means, and engaged in danger & adventure throughout this 15 year segment of his life (I've spoken with extended family). There are over 1400 photos & hundreds of newspaper clippings chronicling his life ... early Muskoka days, the war adventure, participating in the ariel surveying / mapping of various Texas cities, the first venture of flying fresh fish out of Mexico to Brownsville Texas on dry ice ... 400 pound loads, and finally in 1929, the inaguration of the first Chinese air mail service between Shanghai & Nanking (Shanghai club memberships), a Chinese wedding in a plane with Henderson flying a chase plane & doing photos .... Henderson was doing much of this commercial venture while representing the Detroit Stinson aircraft company ... promoting, selling & flying their craft in these ventures. This is probably the greatest pictorial history of any Canadian WWI fighter pilot and of the post war development of the aircraft business. I've tried many museums but there are no acquisition funds for this type of material (I paid a significant sum to acquire the collection via auction) and so now I offer it for sale. Henderson is a Canadian hero & this material should stay in Canada & be preserved for generations to come. Thanks for looking.
