RARE, ORIGINAL FINISH MICHIGAN CHAIR CO. MISSION / PRAIRIE SCHOOL SPINDLE BACK CHAIR WITH CORBELS (39”H x (seat:17 ½”W –front; 14 ½”-back) x 16 ¼”D), c1905, in excellent condition.
Using the desirable quarter cut oak, it was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is a rare example of the desirable Prairie School of design first introduced to the general public in 1901. Last known example sold for $800. in 1989 (Reference: The Lyle Official Antiques Review 1991, pg. 280 (sold at Skinner, Inc., October 21, 1989, lot 79, for $800.U.S.), Perigree Bks., Putnam Pub., 1990).
