oil on board of the Mohawk Chapel, Brantford

Hauntingly beautiful oil of the Mohawk Chapel, Brantford at sunset. 1st quarter, 20th century. In it's original frame. It has the name Beatrice Smith, Grand Street, Brantford, on the back, but it is uncertain if this refers to the painter, or owner. There is some crackle and slight surface bumpiness due to it's age which contributes positively to it's character. image size 12" x 18". framed 14 1/2" x 21".

A fine condition antique boys single-shot rifle in a wooden case. Made by the J. Stevens Arm & Tool Co. Chicopee Falls Mass. Caliber is .25 rimfire. Shootable and in fine operating condition with a special order rear target sight. Action retains some case-hardened colors - fine blue on the barrel - original varnish - butt plate is excellent. The rifle dates circa 1895. The period wooden case has brass latches and it original coloured varnish stain on the exterior. ***SOLD***Vintage Alabaster Stone Marble Italian Life Size Fruit 13 pieces in great early wire basket

Vintage Alabaster Stone Marble Italian Life Size Fruit 13 pieces in early wire basket.
Collectors often refer to these as stone fruit although they are not made of stone. Stone fruit was first made in the Victorian days and became very popular after WWII. The early fruit was made in Italy, between 60 and 100 years ago, from white Carrara marble. The Italians made fruits, miniature fruits, oversize fruits, nuts and vegetables. They are hand carved, hand painted and you can sometimes see the chisel marks.
The fruit consists of 13 beautifully carved painted life size Italian Alabaster Marble fruit pieces in an early wire basket. They are lifelike: hand-painted with naturalistic colors and a variety of textures. Unmarked. Each piece is hand painted to include the natural flaws and beauty of real fruit.
Approximate Dimensions: Included in the group of 13: 2 bananas each approximately 5" long, 3 oranges (one is a tangerine 2" high and 2.5" wide) the other two are 3" high and 2.5" high. There are 2 peaches, one is 3" high and the other 2.25" high. I believe this fruit is a Pomegranate and it is 3" high. There are 2 apples, one is 2.25" high and the other 2'5" high. The squash is 3" high and the pear 3.75" high. What appears to be a large plum is 2.5" high. I believe the other fruit is a nectarine and it is 2.5" high.
The basket is 2.75" high and when opened it is 4" high. The base is 6.5" in diameter. The width at the top is 9.25".

Condition: They all show wear and have chips that have occurred over the years. The pear and the tangerine are missing their stems. I believe that these are over 50 years old. Please be sure to view photos carefully, I've tried to get a picture from different angles.

People playing cards by Bill Male

This vibrant acrylic on artist board painting of people playing cards in an auditorium is typical of a type of Bill Male painting, showing groups of people having fun . As a life long bachelor it seems natural to cherish people relating like this. I imagine that this could be a card club in his hometown of Hemmingsford, Quebec. Here's a link to his bio. His disregard for relative sizes gives this painting an almost outsider quality. It makes me smile. In hand made 1" frame. 26 1/2" x 20". Signed "Male" on front bottom right corner. Excellent condition.
