A wonderful rider and horse whirlygig. Found in an attic in Watertown, New York and recently acquired from a private collection. While this could be described as a remnant, the surface, form and condition makes this a worthwhile addition to any folk art collection. From appearances it is estimated to be from the last quarter of the 19th century. Materials - wood, tin, string and paint. Overall length is 12 1/2".

This is a beautifully carved and painted bird by the late, great, Gaspe, Quebec artist Yvon Cote. Cote was a highly regarded folk artist who is well represented in many major folk art collections. He achieved his unique finish by colouring the pieces with pencil crayon and then lacquering them. This piece came originally from Nettie Covey Sharpe, whose collection was the subject of a major folk art exhibition at the Museum of Civilization in 2003. In excellent condition. 7 1/2" long, 3 1/2" wide, 9" tall.
