VERY RARE ORIGINAL STONE LITHOGRAPH* POSTER (could be the only one extant) of CRESCEUS (1894-1916), FAMOUS WORLD CHAMPION TROTTER HORSE depicted with his owner, trainer, & driver, George H. Ketcham (d.1925), marked, COLUMBUS LITHO, c1901, 20" x 24", archivally restored (tears, & chips), trimmed, & paper backed (reversible) on Japanese acid free paper. Holding 17 world records and a record time of 2:02.5, a time unheard of for trotters, he ran on 27 tracks in 17 states and never finished worse than fourth. Cresceus's fame resulted in a street, subdivision, & a cigar being named after him. He was honoured with civic parades in Toledo, Ohio and his old shoes and nails were either gold or silver plated as souvenirs (from a poster made in 1980 by Len Beach Assocs. in tribute to Cresceus).
From the book: The Story of a Great Horse: Cresceus 2:02 1/4 By John McCartney Hollenbeck Pr., 1902:

From: Toledo Blade, June 28, 1964:
Cresceus...held 17 different world's trotting records.
From December 14, 1966 Harness Horse by Ken McCarr:
"G. H. Ketcham decided to sell Cresceus at the Old Glory Auction in 1904. The second bid made was for $21,000 and it took Cresceus to the Savage Farm. This was the only stallion to hold the World's trotting record.... He was a beautiful chestnut color and to a kid this was really something.... Cresceus was a shy foal getter and in 1908 he was sold for export to Russia....He was mistreated after being exported; he endured some things which have killed an ordinary horse and lived until 1916."
*Stone lithography was the first printmaking technology that allowed a traditional artist to work using traditional techniques, and to create prints that could rival an original painting in terms of detail, mood and color variations. Stone lithography was popular for about a century during the 1800s, and is still practiced today by artists and lithography studios.
